A/N: I just needed a poor excuse to write about Sam and Jess’ first meeting. And yes, the song is “Nightwish” by Nightwish. And I needed to angst a bit. You’re welcome.
Oh, setting Sun,
Thy red rays maketh me cry.
They remind me of the one
Whose love awaits me in the sky.
Sam is standing by her grave, a bouquet of red lilies in his hands. Dean’s gone “to provide food”, he muttered, so he’ got plenty of time to bring back memories of their time together.
Sam had never taken swordsmanship seriously. He hadn’t been too interested in the whole “let’s hunt strange creatures” thing, not as much as his dad John would have loved him to be, thus he never fully understood all Dean’s hype when he was taught archery; he just wanted to live a normal life, that was why he fled, leaving his dad and his brother, to go to the Royal Academy of Oestara and learn Law – to become a counselor at the Court eventually.
It was one of the very few days Sam had some free time, so he was just wandering around the city: ever since he arrived, he hadn’t had much the chance to see it, his teachers had filled all his schedule with homeworks. As he was sitting on a bench he saw her. Sam had already seen her, as Brady, one of his friends at the Academy, introduced her some days before – and needless to say, Sam had been quite impressed by the girl. He opened his mouth to say something, but no sound came out. He did not even realize he dropped the books he was keeping into his hands.
Jessica had had to notice this, because she turned towards him with grace and smiled brightly at Sam. He felt his heart skip a beat or two and his cheeks becoming of a faint shade of red, as he quickly pulled up all his books and papers. He then noticed how not-so-casually she let her handkerchief drop.
Sam swallowed, then as quickly as he could, picked up said handkerchief – a lacey one – and said:
- Excuse me… I-I think you drooped your handkerchief, Madonna…
He hoped she wouldn’t notice how tense was his voice. She turned towards him and smiled again.
- My my, Messere. I should not be so careless. Thank you…
- Sam… Ehrrr… Samuel Winchester… You’re welcome…
- Jessica. Jessica Moore.
Sam quietly puts the lilies on Jessica’s grave, caressing lightly the cold stone under which she’s buried. He doesn’t cry – not anymore – he just bows his head and whispers:
- I’m sorry.
This is where our heroes have their adventures. Below I’m putting all the set descriptions.
The continent is divided in four kingdoms, named - with a real sparkle of originality - on the four directions, thus metaforically dividing with a “X” the parts. In reality the division is more complex, as right in the middle there’s a fifth area, between the Frozen Mounts and the Silent Lowland, no one lives in - except for beasts and monsters and it is considered nobody’s territory.
Each kingdom has its own capital:
Dean, Sam and Bobby live in Heron, a small village in the Kingdom of the North.
Each kingdom bases its economy on specific products: the Kingdom of the North, being close to the Wertho Mounts Chain, full of metals and precious minerals, lives on extracting said minerals and making weaponry and other objects to cultivate fields and so on.
The Kingdom of the West is a neuralgic point for naval trade: in fact, the Southern Harbours are the most important landing points of the whole continent. The kingdom lives on fishing and trading.
The Kingdom of the South, being close to many woods and forests, among which there is the White Forest, baases its economy on whatever the wood can produce, from boats to paper.
The Kingdom of the East, having lots of fields and grasslands, lives on stock-breeding and whatever the earth can produce. The Bay of Lemne is a dreaded place no one really gets too close, because it is said that in these waters there are frightening creatures called Leviathans.
Four times per year each capital organizes a fair, so every merchant of the continent can have the chance to sell and buy products from every country - and thus economy goes on
Who and what inhabits the continent?
The continent is inhabited by humans and common animals - cats, dogs, horses and so on. There are also strange creatures, like dragons, ogres, demons and such, who tend to live hidden from everyone else; to get rid of these creatures there are the so-called hunters: Dean and Sam are hunters of those creatures.
Hunters are usually seen as “outcast” and “outlaw” characters and they often have to deal with the kingdoms’ guards. Thus they need to hide and to have a backup.
On the next post I will describe the organization of each kingdom.
A/N: I’m physically and mentally drained, so there might be mistakes.
Sam and Dean always wondered about how skilled Bobby was as a healer, knowing he was a former Healing Master at the Imperial Court of the Kingdom of the East. He didn’t like speaking too much of what he was before he established his modest house in that little village in the Kingdom of the North.
Bobby never spoke of this and the boys never asked.
It was one day, the boys were at Bobby’s place, they noticed that by the chimney there was a painting, half covered with bottles of medications and jars full of medical herbs. It portrayed Bobby - a younger Bobby - with a beautiful woman. On the bottom, at the right, there was the Imperial heraldic of the Kingdom of the East.
- Who do you think she is?
Sam looked perplexed.
- Dunno. Maybe some old flame of Bobby, who knows?
- Mostly, look at the symbol there!
A gruff voice came from their back.
- She was my wife, Karen.
Some mutters made Sam and Dean understand he would not say anymore.
When Dean and Sam had finally gone, Bobby looked at the painting. He moved bottles and jars from the top of the chimney; he caressed lightly Karen’s profile on the painting and then looked with rage at the heraldic sign at the right. He wondered if that scar would ever disappear and if he ever would be able to forgive himself.
A/N: as usually not beta’d. Forgive me if there are mistakes, English is not my mothertongue. I’d love to introduce some new characters, but I need a bit of feedback. Ask box is open, don’t be shy :3.
Meet the Trickster
They have been told that there is a Trickster in town, but no one of the inhabitants seems to have a clue. This makes Dean really nervous, as he continuously tucks at his bow. Sam is quite nervous as well. He is frantically looking around to find traces, or whatever gives a sign of the Trickster’s passage.
It is quite sudden the move they both make when they feel something is changing. Before them, instead of the blacksmith’s shop, there is a huge house entirely made of sweets.
- What the hell?!
Dean turns his head to a puzzled Sam, who manages to stutter an answer.
- I don’t know!
They hesitate for some minutes, before finally crossing the door. Inside there’s a room, with another door. Walls change like glass in a kaleidoscope and there is a table with two dice. Behind the table there is a man with a smirk. The man claps his hands and says:
- Hey, kiddos. Did you like my little joke?
Sam unsheathes his sword, while Dean takes out an arrow and nocks it on his bow.
- You’re the Trickster?
- Compliments, Mr. Swordsman! You won a totally free tour around my lovely house - this place.
The Trickster tilts his head and puts the dice into Sam’s pocket, patting his shoulder. He snaps his fingers and the door from where the two hunters had entered vanishes. He sits on a chair appeared out of nowhere and explains with a smirk that hints anything but reassurance.
- You see, you entered into my realm and you have only one way to get out. You roll the dice and find me. Or you die here. Understood?
Dean shoots the arrow, but misses. The Trickster has vanished, leaving only his voice.
- You can’t shoot me here, kiddos. You’re in the game now. Good luuuck.
- Son of a bitch! As soon as I find him, I’m going to gouge his eyes out of the orbits!
- It’s not like we can do much here. We have to play along with him.
- So, where do we start from, Sammy? - Here’s a door. So if there’s a door there’s a key.
Dean nods. He takes the dice from his brother’s pocket and throws them on the table. Game’s on and there’s no way they will get out before they find the Trickster.
My inner nerd is seeing resemblances with “Rayheart” by CLAMP, even though the pics are specifically inspired from another thing.
I just inverted Sam’s weapon with Dean’s, but this pic is quite explanatory of this AU.
A/N: written in an hour, not beta’d, I hope it is everything IC, even if AU!verse, and that there aren’t grammatical mistakes. I hope you’ll like this!:D
The very first time Dean actually feels something very close to awe it is when he meets Castiel.
As a hunter, and archer, who has seen everything, from dragons to sylphs, he tends to not be so surprised when it comes to things who have to do with the supernatural.
Everything is ready; Sam is outside of the cave, carving symbols around the stone walls with Bobby, while he’s on the inside. He’s waiting for something to happen, while he nocks the arrow to the bowstring. It’s been quite some time since he’s been so tense. Thing is, he has to clear up some questions that have been bugging him from the moment someone dragged him out of that Hell he had been forced into by his quite risky pact he made, when his brother was killed. And, to add oil to the fire, maybe that someone is linked to some mysterious events that are happening - like already slaughtered ogres, or the presence of magic formulas he never heard of carved into stones.
That’s why there’s this whole apparatus of traps and ancient spells inside and outside the cave where said someone is apparently heading to.
Everything begins with a tumbling sound and the flickering of the lanterns that brighten the cave. Dean draws the bow, while Bobby comes into the cave and tells him Sam is guarding the entrance. The flickering grows more and more, until the two men can literally hear sounds like far thunders rumbling. And there, among all this noise, he comes in, not even bothered by all the spells on the walls. He walks solemnly towards Dean and Bobby holding a long staff; his blue eyes seem to reflect the flickering of the lanterns.
In that moment Dean feels awe. More than fear, it is the feeling of not knowing exactly what to do, of being surprised. It is a mage the person who is walking towards him - and Dean has never actually seen a mage. This feeling lasts for just a few seconds, then he shoots an arrow to the mage’s direction. The latter does not even flinch, keeping walking calmly towards them. Then the archer pulls out his dagger and points it towards the black haired man.
- Who are you?
- I’m the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition.
The mage talks like it is just a matter of nothing. Quickly Dean snaps:
- Well, then, thanks for that.
And as fast as he can, he stabs the mage, who once again does not even move. Dean is startled, he doesn’t know what to think. Bobby acts and tries to stop him, but the mage, pulling out of his body the dagger so easily it hurts, just wavers his staff and petrifies him. Then he turns towards the archer.
- Dean, we need to talk. Alone.
The archer renounces to think straight. He asks with a suspicious tone:
- Who are you?
It’s me, it’s Lhaewiel!
I decided I had to create this !verse because of reasons. I am no artist, but I’m a decent writer, so you’ll get a lot of AU fanfics!8D So here’s what you might want to know.
Main plotline (will be subjected to changes):
